Pascal ticks off Salleh over statement on his father's murder
Pascal Najadi, son of murdered AmBank founder Hussain Najadi, questioned how a federal minister can be certain that his father's killing is unrelated to PM Najib Razak’s ‘donation’ scandal if the police are ignoring the motive of the assassination.
Pascal was responding to Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak's dismissal of Australia-based ABC's 'Four Corners' documentary, which ostensibly linked together the murders of Hussain, deputy public prosecutor Kevin Anthony Morais and Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.
"Salleh obviously is ignoring the fact that the Attorney-General's Chambers and the police have decided not to investigate the motive of one of the most prominent assassinations in Malaysian history.
"We are specifically surprised that Salleh ventures out to the media, claiming the assassination has nothing to do with the prime minister or 1MDB.
"He seems to know more than we. We would like material facts from him that support his daring statement," Pascal said in a press release yesterday.
Hussain was on July 29, 2013, gunned down in Lorong Ceylon, Kuala Lumpur, by Kong Swee Kwan, who was subsequently sentenced to death.
Police believed that one Lim Yuen Soo paid RM20,000 to Kong to carry out the hit and requested Interpol's help for Lim's arrest.
Police finally succeeded in arresting Lim on Oct 15, 2015, and submitted their investigation papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers five days later.
Pascal: Investigate murder thoroughly
However, they were forced to release Lim after the AG's Chambers said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute the case.
Pascal reiterated his call for the Malaysian authorities to thoroughly investigate his father's murder.
"We are in touch with certain international prosecutors that are investigating 1MDB.
"We demand from Malaysia to diligently investigate the assassination of Hussain Najadi," he said.
Pascal said international criminal law expert Nick Kaufman has been engaged to pursue the case at the United Nations.
He added that it was shameful the Malaysian government has become known for ignoring proper investigation related to important cases such as 1MDB, SRC International and the murders of Hussain, Kevin and Altantuya.
