Contractor remanded over Youth Ministry graft case released

A contractor was released by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today, following the expiry of his two-week remand to facilitate investigations into the misappropriation of RM107million in government funds.

The 34-year-old man, who was remanded on March 26, was released on bail of RM10,000 on one surety.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman issued the order to release him.

His lawyer, Ridha Abdah Subri, told reporters that following investigations, the MACC had agreed to release his client, adding that there was no indication by the MACC that he would be charged.

Yesterday, Youth and Sports Ministry senior officer Otman Arshad was charged in the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur with 32 counts of abusing his position and submitting false claims for payments involving more than RM38.4 million in 2012.
