Hundreds of media reported on 'dictator-like' Dr M, portal retaliates

Turning the clock back to the Reformasi era following the sacking of then deputy prime minister Anwar Ibrahim, MyKMU.net said that hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign media organisations had reported about Dr Mahathir Mohamad's dictator-like leadership.

"Back then did we hear about Mahathir suing these international media which accused him of numerous scandals and embezzlements... Now he wants Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to sue all the media. Waste of time," it said.

The portal was responding to Mahathir, who yesterday compiled a list of 53 foreign news organisations which had reported on the issues surrounding Najib and 1MDB.

"If Malaysians, Muslims and Malays are to feel belittled with the foreign media as mentioned by Mahathir, then we should have felt the same during his administration.

"For 22 years, numerous scandals were associated with Malaysia because of him," it said.

MyKMU said Mahathir is playing political games with the intention of toppling the current prime minister.

The portal, which described the former premier as the "new opposition leader", noted how Mahathir now considered the foreign media to be the main point of reference as if these organisations are 'kitab suci' (holy books) which all Malaysians must have faith in.

"Back then, it was Mahathir who taught us about the propaganda of 'Jewish proxies' who controlled the foreign media," it said.

MyKMU also said if each of the reports cited by Mahathir is scrutinised, it could be said that almost all of them quoted each other.

Their main source, it added, is just Sarawak Report .

Najib has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain, and blamed such allegations on those conspiring to topple him from power.

Similarly, 1MDB has also accused its detractors of recycling allegations with a political motive.

In January, attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali also cleared the prime minister of any wrongdoing.
