Alcohol, Cayman Islands and em Jawi boys
I refer to the letter Leave me alone... by Malaysian Muslim For Now.
What a wonderful idea. That's the best solution, isn't it? Leave Malaysia. Go somewhere else, preferably some Western country where you can do whatever you want regardless of which God you worship and which holy text you read.
Is there no patriotism anymore? Where is the love for our homeland? Some seem to be saying: 'I am a Muslim. I am not allowed to be at a place where alcohol is being served. This makes me itch. No nightlife, no love. Goodbye Malaysia! I'm off to the Cayman Islands.'
Wonderful. If there are millions who do not mind migrating just because they are not allowed to have a soft drink where alcohol is served, we have a very clear picture of how much our citizens love our country.
That said, back to that Jawi raid . I am not a Muslim, but I understand that Syariah laws are for those caught consuming alcohol - not for those being near it. I am also not aware of the fact that Malaysian Muslims are not allowed to be in a place where alcohol is being served.
Is there any clause in our Syariah law that allows the Jawi boys to detain Muslims in nightclubs and sub-clauses on how to humiliate them until a point that they wished they had not been born? I am not aware of such laws.
If there is any such law, could any one of our many members of parliament do something to amend this inhumane law? If there is no such law, doesn't that mean that what the Jawi boys did was wrong and that they could be sued?
