YOURSAY | ‘And why is it always people other than the PM who answer questions?’
PM’s payment to Jakel fashion house was for charity, claims MyKMU
Kim Quek:
The Wall Street Journal
’s categorical allegation of PM Najib Razak splurging US$15 million on personal luxuries is directed at Najib himself, and so he must answer personally such accusation which, according to WSJ, was based on banking transaction information available to it.
Answers provided by a third party, such as website MyKMU , wouldn’t do. As prime minister of the country, Najib owes the nation an immediate answer to these serious accusations.
Remaining silence would imply admission, and both the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must move in immediately to investigate this for possible corruption.
Aquinas Says: Indeed, why is it always people other than the PM who answer these questions? And in this case, how in the world does MyKMU know what the PM used the money for?
It sounds like Najib is shielding himself by relying on sycophants who come out with the lamest answers that have no bearing on the truth. This way, if the truth ever comes out, he can say he never said those words.
Everyone knows your game plan, Mr PM. You are not fooling anyone.
Odin Tajué: Let us suppose that both the years 2011 and 2014 mentioned by WSJ are included, meaning we have four years.
At that period, the dollar would have been equal to RM3·3 on the average. Now US$14 million x 3.3 = RM46.2 million. Divide that by 4 and we get RM11.55 million donated per year.
Where did Najib get the money from? Has he ever donated to the poor natives in Sabah and Sarawak and victims of natural disasters in the two ‘colonies’ of Malaya? If he has, how much? And prove it, please.
Negarawan: With the Sarawak state election around the corner, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is taking desperate damage control measures to cover up the barrage of damning reports from the international media and investigators.
However, hiding behind the orphans, the poor and the destitute to protect themselves from accusations of millions of sinful expenditure on luxury goods and holidays is not just an act of cowardice, but is also inhumane.
The poor and destitute are God's special children. Please do not insult them by saying that you purchased Chanel products or souvenirs from Porto Cervo for them. Please do not incur the wrath of God.
SusahKes: With due respect, shouldn't the PM have mandated the Welfare Department to do all this so-called "charitable" distribution instead; that's their job scope, isn't it?
Look at where all this audit trail of "donation" is getting him into; merely one 'story' to cover another.
He should have, especially as finance minister, convened a cabinet or parliamentary meeting, to state his plan of action for the less fortunate, and laid bare his funding sources, then and there.
Now you wish to tell the story after the proverbial shit has hit the fan, you expect us to roll over and buy it? The Australian Parliament speaker was forced to quit for so very much less.
Concern Ctzen: I think the best is show all the documentation proof publicly so the rakyat will can see for themselves. Only real facts in black and white will convince the people.
Rick Teo: Najib lies again. You don't buy clothes for charity using your own bank account. If the PM wishes to donate to charity or buy something to be given out for charity, he uses government funds and not funds from his bank accounts.
He must be telling fibs again.
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Yes, don't bullshit. Do a search at Jakel. Swarovski is featured on its home page . It sells, among others, precious stones.
Gunnerrun: Every time the "prince" is cornered, the way out is to make him look so saintly by painting him as a benefactor, donor or philanthropist.
Jakel’s cloths and clothes are expensive. A lot of international brands are carried by its outlets. In Johor Baru, these brands are displayed on its building and they are really impressive.
And where on Earth does the PM get so much money to donate in the first place?
If the intention is to distribute clothes to the poor, they would have gone to the cheapest shops in town, cut a deal to get the best price possible through bulk buying and spread the joy to as many as possible who need clothing items, curtains, etc.
FairMind: Najib is earning a monthly remuneration of RM22,826.65. Use your head whether he can afford to give US$14 million charity under his own name.
It will take him 51 years to save up his remuneration assuming he doesn't spend a single sen of it.
Gungadin: Najib is already in a really deep hole and all they can do is keep throwing him spades.
