The police will scrutinise the auditor-general’s report on 1MDB to determine if further action is needed.

This was revealed in a Twitter post by inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

“Police will conduct a detailed and in-depth examination of the auditor’s report to check if there are any elements warranting investigation and further action,” he said.

Khalid added that police would also consider the recommendations made by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

"Police will also scrutinise the PAC's recommendations to see if there are any elements that would require investigations and further action by the Royal Malaysian Police," he said.

This morning, the PAC tabled its report on 1MDB based on the auditor-general’s findings to Parliament.

Previously, Khalid said police investigation into 1MDB was dependent on details in the auditor-general's report.

He had said while the investigation was ongoing, it cannot be concluded until the auditor-general's report is ready and released.

“We are still waiting for the report from the auditor-general. If we don’t wait for the report, our investigations are not complete,” he added.

The allegation-riddled 1MDB is the brainchild of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Following the PAC report which highlighted mismanagement in the state fund, the 1MDB board of directors have collectively offered to resign.

"This has been a difficult decision to take but we believe it is the right thing to do, given the circumstances, in order to facilitate any follow-up investigations as recommended by the PAC," they said in a statement.
