You can't be 80pct pregnant, 1MDB tells Pua

In its latest salvo against DAP lawmaker Tony Pua, 1MDB has employed a procreative analogy to drive home the point.

This is over his remark about being 80 percent satisfied with the contents of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on the firm.

In a media statement this evening titled, 'You can't be 80% pregnant, Pua', 1MDB urged the PAC member to "switch off the political rhetoric".

"Shockingly, having signed off without reservation on the PAC report, he is now seeking to backpedal and question the contents of the report, saying he is only 80 percent satisfied.

"1MDB has provided to the National Audit Department all documents in its possession. It has also explained to the department why other documents could not be procured.

"Pua knows this and yet persists with his recycled ranting," it added.

1MDB pointed out that the consensus report is a comprehensive and conclusive document.

Apart from this, the firm noted that PAC has asked the relevant enforcement agencies to further investigate certain matters.

"Pua now needs to respect the collective will of the PAC, switch off the political rhetoric and allow the lawful authorities to do their job," it said.

Previously, 1MDB had described the opposition MP as a " one-trick pony ".

BN claims PM absolved

PAC had tabled its report to Parliament yesterday, and BN leaders immediately claimed that it exonerated Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak of any wrongdoing.

Najib is the chairperson of the 1MDB advisory board.

However, Pua argued that the report does not clear the prime minister, arguing that the prime minister should order 1MDB to hand over its banking records to PAC and the auditor-general.

He was referring to the US$5.5 billion of 1MDB's overseas cash flow that went unaccounted.

Pua said by providing the records, Najib could remove any suspicion of link between 1MDB's overseas funds and himself.

Meanwhile, PAC chairperson Hassan Arifin explained that Najib was not mentioned in the report because the committee did not find any evidence to indicate wrongdoing or abuse of power.

The prime minister has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain and blamed such allegations on those conspiring to topple him.
