S'wak bumiputera no longer 'lain-lain' in official forms
Sarawak bumiputera will no longer be categorised as ' lain-lain ' (others) in official forms, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
This was approved by the cabinet in a recent meeting and will be implemented by the National Registration Department, he said.
"This was something the people of Sarawak have asked, through its state government, and is something the Sarawakian ministers in cabinet have fought for," he is quoted by Bernama as saying.
He made the announcement at the Sejiwa Senada programme in Kota Samarahan.
This was among the 53 promises made by Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem when he came into power in February 2014.
There are 53 recognised ethnicity in Sarawak, the national newswire reported.
"Support should be given to Adenan," Zahid was quoted as saying today.
Adenan also attended the event.
Zahid said Sarawak is "close to the hearts" of federal government as many ministers come from Sarawak.
"I congratulate Sarawak leaders for bringing the issues faced by Sarawakians to the central leadership," he said.
The Sarawak election is on May 7 with campaigning to take place from April 25.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is due to arrive in Sibu later today.
