BN candidates visit kidnap victim's family to clear the air
S'WAK POLLS Three BN direct candidates visited the residence of a kidnap victim to clear the confusion which occurred during a ceramah last night.
Wong Soon Koh (Bawang Assan), Tiong Thai King (Dudong), and Janet Lau (Pelawan) arrived at the house in Sibu around 5pm.
Last night, family members went to both a United People's Party (UPP) and DAP ceramah and knelt on the stage, pleading for assistance.
Following this, a video went viral on social media, showing Tiong walking away as the family members requested for help.
During the 30-minute meeting this evening, Wong told the family that it was a misunderstanding.
"It was unexpected... The family went on stage in the middle of the gathering and people didn't understand what was happening.
"Tiong walked towards them when he knew this was about the kidnapping case, but he was blocked and asked to give them more time (on stage). Here came the misunderstanding.
“The family also said it was a misunderstanding. They only wanted attention (for the case), and were not trying to make a scene," he told reporters later.
According to Bernama , inspector-general of Police Khalid Abu Bakar had urged all parties not to sensationalise the issue during the campaign period.
He said it would not solve the problem but only make it more difficult to secure the release of the kidnap victims.
Wong said he was the first politician who came to family's house to offer assistance.
Even the meeting between Chief Minister Adenan Satem and the family was brokered by him, Wong added.
He also gave advice to the family on how to manage the kidnapping case.
Tiong, who sat with them, however did not participate much in the conversation.
The family also went to DAP ceramah yesterday night, where DAP announced all donations collected that night would be passed to the family.
