You will be CM for next five years, Kit Siang assures Adenan

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has assured Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem that he will continue to lead the state for the next five years.

He added that the most the opposition could do was to deny BN two-thirds majority in the state legislative assembly.

Therefore, Lim failed to understand the reasons behind the chief minister being suspicious-minded.

He was referring to Adenan's remarks in Kuching last night, where he urged voters not to believe the DAP leader's claim that the opposition merely sought to prevent the ruling coalition from securing a two-thirds majority in the May 7 state polls.

Describing it as a ploy, the chief minister warned if the people fell for this bait, Sarawak could end up with a new government comprising parties from West Malaysia.

However, Lim begged to differ.

"Let me assure Adenan that what I said is no ploy, but a serious statement of what would happen on May 7.

"DAP has fielded candidates in 31 seats, and even if we win all the 31 seats (and no one, in particular none from the Sarawak BN, would say there is any possibility of such a thing happening), Adenan would still have a comfortable majority to be Sarawak chief minister for the next five years," he said in a press statement.

If Adenan is being advised by his political advisers and strategists that he might not be chief minister for the next five years, Lim suggested that he replace these individuals.

"Or does Adenan want me to give him a letter of guarantee that he would be the Sarawak chief minister again on May 7?" he asked.

Apart from DAP, PKR would be contesting 40 seats, PAS 11 and Parti Amanah Negara 13.

There are 82 seats in Sarawak, and BN won two uncontested on nomination day while DAP and PKR would be locking horns in six seats after negotiations failed.
