A journalist from news website The Heat Malaysia has been called in by police in connection with investigations under the Sedition Act 1948 into the Citizens' Declaration, which she wrote about in an article published on the site.

"Dear all, please be informed that journalist Zakiah Koya has been called by the police for investigation under Sedition Act over an article regarding the Deklarasi Rakyat press conference on 4th March 2016," read a message from Lawyers for Liberty (LFL).

According to the message, Zakiah will be questioned at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 2.30pm tomorrow.

She will be accompanied by LFL officials Eric Paulsen and Melissa Sasidaran.

Contacted by Malaysiakini this afternoon, Zakiah (photo) confirmed the matter, though she did not elaborate further.

It is understood that she is one of those that police are looking at in their investigations into the Citizen's Declaration under the Sedition Act. This is the first time that she is being called in on the matter.

Zakiah will be the second person called in for the investigations into the matter, the first being activist Azrul Mohd Khalib, who started the online petition in support of the Citizens' Declaration.

The petition, titled ‘Petitioning Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak To Quit’ was launched side by side with the Citizen's Declaration by a bipartisan group of eminent figures from Umno, the opposition and civil society, including Dr Mahathir Mohamad, on March 4, which Zakiah reported on.

The petition calls for the removal of Najib Abdul Razak as prime minister and the implementation of institutional reforms.
