Lim Kit Siang has chosen to keep his cards close to his chest as to what will transpire next, following the seat dispute between DAP and PKR in the Sarawak state election.

As for now, the DAP veteran stressed that his focus is on the state election which would take place on May 7.

Lim was asked to respond to former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, who plans to invite Lim to dinner consisting an impressive spread of "Brittany oysters, Boston clam chowder and charcoal-roasted young lamb from Spain" to discuss matters related to the opposition pact.

The former minister said he intended to impress upon Lim during the dinner that DAP should discard its electoral pact with PKR, and embrace Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) instead.

"I thank Zaid and all who have views for my attention," Lim told Malaysiakini.

"But as I said on nomination day, my one and only focus now is the Sarawak state election and all other matters will be dealt with after May 7," he added.

Both PKR and DAP locked horns on nomination day after the former decided to contest in five seats - Mulu, Mambong, Murum, Simanggang and Ngemah.

In retaliation, DAP fielded a candidate at the eleventh hour for the Batu Kitang state seat.

Since then, both the Pakatan Harapan allies have pointed the finger at each other for the imbroglio.

Their political rivals have also capitalised on the issue, with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak warning that chaos would prevail if these parties governed Sarawak or the nation.

Following the crisis, both Lim and PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli apologised to the public while Amanah leaders were upset over the episode, with Shah Alam lawmaker Khalid Samad describing it as a leadership failure.

Zaid, on the other hand, expressed sadness that Lim was forced to apologise because of PKR.

However, political analyst Khoo Kay Peng panned the former law minister’s suggestion.

He said such a scenario would place the Selangor government in jeopardy. The state has 13 PKR assemblypersons, 15 from DAP, and two from Amanah.
