S'WAK POLLS DAP's Sekinchan assemblyperson Ng Suee Lim is the latest in the growing list of opposition leaders barred from entering Sarawak.

Ng, who arrived in Miri about 3.50pm today by Malaysia Airlines Flight MH2594, was detained by state immigration officials on arrival.

He was given a notice of refusal of entry under Section 65(1)(a) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

"The state authority has directed that no pass be issued to you to enter the state of Sarawak and such pass is required under Section 66 for you to enter the state," the notice states.

Ng was then put on the next flight out of Miri.

The last person who was barred from entering Sarawak before Ng was Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, who was denied entry three days ago.

Chief Minister Adenan Satem has said that the Sarawak immigration authorities would not allow racist and religious extremists people into the state.

This is despite the largest state in Malaysia going through its state assembly election campaign, after the nomination day that was held on April 25.

Now, more than 40 opposition lawmakers, activists and academicians are on the Sarawak state government's ban list.

The state exercises immigration autonomy as part of the 1963 Malaysia Agreement.

However, opposition lawmakers argued that they are permitted to carry out legitimate political activities under Section 66 and 67 of the Immigration Act, and have accused the BN of abusing Sarawak's immigration law.
