Kini roundup: Harapan fails to reconcile; Adenan shows who's boss

Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday.

Seats stalemate in Pakatan Harapan

Pakatan Harapan has failed to resolve the clashes between DAP and PKR in the Sarawak election, despite an appeal by jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

However, Amanah leaders shot down former minister Zaid Ibrahim's suggestion for a new coalition, stating that there is still hope for Harapan.

Adenan shows CM and MB who's boss

Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem said he is willing to allow his fellow heads of government Azmin Ali and Lim Guan Eng into the state, if they would write a formal request to him.

Azmin replied he will not do so, and said Adenan was disrespectful to his counterparts in the menteri besar and chief minister’s offices.

Both Azmin and Lim have been ordered to leave Sarawak before the May 7 election.

However, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli wrote to Adenan to appeal for his entry to campaign in the Sarawak election, promising he would not criticise Adenan and would only take aim at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Meanwhile, Himpunan Hijau chairperson Wong Tack was the latest to be kicked out of the state.

Dr M's uphill battle

Former minister Zainuddin Maidin said former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad was not fighting a losing battle against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as the fruits of his effort will be decided in the next general elections.

Meanwhile, the Citizens’ Declaration movement, which was initiated by eminent leaders, including Mahathir, is aiming to achieve a million signatures in two weeks for its petition calling for Najib's resignation.

Other Kini bites

DAP has raised the possibility of bribery after Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi promised a school in Miri RM500,000, if BN wins the election.

The Malaysian Medical Association criticised inspector-general Khalid Abu Bakar for revealing the mental state of the man who defiled a Hindu temple without going through the courts.

Indira Gandhi, who is engaged in an interreligious custody battle, expressed fear that her husband may flee to Thailand with their daughter.

Fuel prices are unchanged for May with RON95 being maintained at RM1.70 per litre.

Looking ahead

Former premier Mahathir Mohamad will be attending a May Day protest organised by the Malaysian Trade Union Congress in Subang Jaya, while Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will also be hosting his own May Day gathering at Putra World Trade Centre.

Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is also set to make a public appearance at a youth dialogue in Kuala Lumpur.
