Beware of crocodiles in search area, SAR team warned

Security forces involved in the Search And Rescue (SAR) mission in Sungai Batang Lupar have been reminded to be careful of crocodiles in the area, although no crocodile was spotted in the location thus far.

Sarawak deputy police commissioner Abdul Aziz Yusof said the river stretch from Lingga to Pulau Seduku, Batang Lupar is known to be crocodile infested.

Pulau Seduku is a crocodile sanctuary in Sarawak and swamps near Taman Negara Maludam is also well known for crocodiles.

Abdul Aziz said security forces involved in the SAR are equipped with weapons for any emergencies.

"The SAR has entered the third day but have not come across any incidents but dangers are common in any search and rescue operation. It serves as a reminder to be cautious for their own safety," he told reporters at the SAR operation centre in Lingga, about 49km from Sri Aman.

He added that the SAR operation was currently focused on areas from Lingga to Pulau Seduku with an increased number of personnel.

"We have a team of divers on standby but due to the murky waters, they are encountering difficulties. However, they will continue to be on standby if required," he said.

Meanwhile, reports have emerged that the SAR had found the second body of the helicopter tragedy this morning. The first body was found yesterday. Four more are still missing.
