Election Commission (EC) chief Mohd Hashim Abdullah was mum on the exact turnout rate on polling day for the Sarawak election.

The last known turnout rate announced by the EC was at 4pm on polling day, at 52 percent of the 1,109,795 voters registered .

"You have to count it yourself," Mohd Hashim was quoted as saying by The Star Online.

However, he said the overall turnout rate is at 70.01 percent, which includes data from early voting and absentee votes.

According to the report, Mohd Hashim acknowledged that the turnout rate on polling day was relatively low.

"We don’t know the exact reasons, but many of the voters could be away on holiday," he was quoted as saying.

However, Mohd Hashim said he was satisfied with the overall turnout rate.

He added that data on spoilt votes will be released in the next few days.
