Johor DAP has slammed the government over allegations that the police Special Branch is snooping on Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

State DAP chairperson Liew Chin Tong said such activities were unacceptable, and called on the government to explain itself.

"Tunku Ismail should not be spied on just because he occasionally expresses some views not shared by the federal government.

"Indeed, the government should not spy on citizens because of their political activities or views," Liew said in a statement today.

In a Facebook posting yesterday, Tunku Ismail claimed that his phone is being tapped and his movements monitored by the Special Branch.

He also claimed that the Bukit Aman police headquarters has opened files on him and his father, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

"I don't understand why my phone is bugged. I don't understand why my movements are monitored by the Special Branch.

"I don't understand why they need a file about me or my father in Bukit Aman," Tunku Ismail said in an interview posted on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page today.

"I'm a leader who cares for my people. Not a terrorist. I'm not dangerous. I have never killed anyone except for Malaysian football," he lamented.
