PAS will deliver a "surprise" for the upcoming Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections, said PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.

"We are confident that we can deliver a surprise for the by-elections, Insya-Allah (God willing)," he said to reporters at the PAS headquarters last night.

When asked what kind of surprise it would be, he said: "Enough, wait for the meeting here."

In the meeting which lasted more than an hour, Nik Abduh said they only discussed on party machinery in the two upcoming by-elections.

"Tonight's meeting is the first and we have not made many decisions, but it's more about arranging party machinery in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar.

"The meeting did not discuss candidates this time, (maybe) we will in another meeting," he said.

The Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seats became vacant after the demise of Plantation Industries and Commodities Deputy Minister Noriah Kasnon (photo) and Wan Muhammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad in a helicopter crash on May 5. They are MPs for Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar respectively.

Meanwhile, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said any decision PAS makes regarding the by-elections will depend on the press conference by the Election Commission (EC) today.

"We are not discussing candidates tonight, we are waiting for EC tomorrow," he said last night.

He also added that in last night's meeting, they have formed a committee for the post-mortem of PAS' defeat in the Sarawak state elections, which will be chaired by the party's vice-chairperson Nik Mohamad Amar Nik Abdullah.

In the 11th state elections, PAS lost in all of the 11 seats they were contesting in Sarawak.
