Every candidate selected to stand for election is vetted as soon as the candidate's name is submitted by a political party to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Mustafar Ali said it was a normal process to vet candidates which had been carried out by MACC all this while.

"It is not uncommon that the vetting of candidates involves all parties, because we are impartial. It's up to the (political) parties concerned to send the information, because it is a common practice done on our part," he told reporters in Kuala Kangsar today.

He said this when asked to comment on the vetting of candidates in the Kuala Kangsar by-election following the death of its MP, Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad, in a helicopter crash in Sebuyau, Sarawak on May 5.

Earlier, he witnessed the signing of the Corporate Integrity Pledge (CIP) between Kolej Universiti Islam Sultan Azlan Shah (KUISAS) and the MACC in Kuala Kangsar.

It was signed by KUISAS rector Nordin Kardi and Perak MACC director Noraziah Abdul Manaf.

On the CIP, Mustafar said it consisted of five principles and 10 initiatives, including the code of ethics between the institution and MACC in the fight against corruption.

"MACC congratulates KUISAS on its strong commitment to ensuring governance in the institution,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nordin said the initiative was taken to support -corruption efforts.
