PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has denied meeting with PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to discuss the two upcoming by-elections.

"No, no," said the Marang MP when quizzed on this at the Parliament lobby.

Hadi also said he is unaware of any ongoing negotiations between PKR and PAS on the by-elections.

This is following speculations that Azmin is trying to broker a deal with PAS to stand down in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar polls on June 18, to allow PKR candidates to contest representing Pakatan Harapan.

This is to avoid split votes in a three-corner fights in the seats, which BN won with about one percent of the votes case in the 2013 general election.

Hadi had earlier appealed to other parties to measure their capabilities before deciding to contest in the by-elections.

Bad blood between PAS and its splinter Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) could force a three-corner fight, but this could be averted if PKR convinced PAS and Amanah to allow its candidates to battle BN instead.

Amanah, however, said it would ensure there would not be three-corner fights involving Pakatan Harapan allies like in the May 7 Sarawak polls where DAP and PKR clashed in six seats.

The Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections were called following the deaths of Noriah Kasnon and Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Wan Mohammad Khairil Anuar Wan Ahmad.

The Umno MPs were killed along with four others in a helicopter crash during the campaign period of the Sarawak state election.

The by-elections are viewed as a litmus test for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in view of the allegations against him.
