Amanah president Mohamad Sabu is one of the possible candidates the party might field in the upcoming Sungai Besar by-election.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said other possible candidates were the party's deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, and former Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.

"But we haven't decided yet because we are still surveying (candidates) in Sungai Besar," he told Malaysiakini when met at Parliament lobby today.

He added that Selangor DAP has also approved of this list.

Besides Amanah, PAS and PKR are also eyeing the Sungai Besar seat.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said negotiations are still on going and is confident of achieving an outcome that would serve the people's interest.

"(Negotiations are) important when you are going to elections. Still have time to manoeuvre for the betterment of the rakyat," she said.

Amanah earlier called on PKR not to waste time negotiating with PAS, and thanks DAP for openly supporting Amanah's candidacies.

The June 18 by-elections were called following the deaths of Noriah Kasnon (Sungai Besar MP) and Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad (Kuala Kangsar MP).

The two were among six people who perished in a helicopter crash during the recent state election campaign period in Sarawak.

Nomination day is on June 5.
