The verbal jousting between PAS and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) has degenerated to an intoxicating level.

Yesterday, PAS Youth chief Nik Mohamed Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz accused DAP of providing "liquor" to certain members of the Islamic party, and claimed that the latter subsequently formed Amanah in their drunken stupor.

However, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad alleged that PAS leaders were the ones who appeared to be inebriated, and cited their attire as evidence of this.

"One sign of a drunk person is that he thinks he is living in a different time.

"We are in the 21st century, but you come to a formal event dressed like a Malay warrior from the 14th century. This person is drunk," the Shah Alam lawmaker told reporters.

Nik Abduh and PAS leaders attending the PAS Youth muktamar on Tuesday, shed their usual white robes for the traditional costume of ancient Malay warriors, complete with the tengkolok headpiece and keris.

Khalid further reminded Nik Abduh that people who are drunk would not be able to form a new party.

"Those who are drunk would remain with the old party even if it has a lot of problems. They are drunk so they cannot see the problems," he retorted.

Attacking friends, praising enemies

Khalid also did not mince his words and accused PAS indirectly of being delusional with many of its recent acts.

Among others, he cited Nik Abduh's call for PAS to reclaim seats that PAS had "loaned" to PKR and DAP as part of the former Pakatan Rakyat federal opposition pact.

"They insult DAP, make fun of PKR but praise MCA and Gerakan. This is the act of an intoxicated person.

"They attacked their friends but praised their enemies.

"They also consider things and seats that do not belong to them as theirs. These are the words of drunken people," he said.

Khalid, as such, said the people would be able to judge based on the words and actions of a party, which is the one that is "really drunk".
