The Bangsar dental clinic that operated on the son-in-law of Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who later died, has offered its condolences to his family.

The Imperial Dental Specialist Centre also sought to dispel speculations over 44-year-old Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi’s cause of death.

“It was a procedure that involved minor oral surgery under sedation with the presence of a trained medical practitioner.

“We would like to make these statements so as to dispel any public speculations or misconception as to the incident,” it said in a Facebook posting last night.

“We hope the public will not speculate otherwise and respect the family's privacy during this difficult time. We also wish to record our deepest condolences to the family of our patient,” it added.

Syed Alman Zain was married to Zahid’s eldest daughter, Nurulhidayah.

He died on Wednesday but the cause of death is yet to be determined.

He was reported to have fallen unconscious while undergoing dental surgery at a Bangsar clinic.

Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam yesterday announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of death.

He also reportedly said that there are provisions under the Medical Act 1971 and Dental Act 1971 to take action against any irregularities or non-professional conduct.
