After engaging in a little number crunching, Lim Kit Siang pointed out that MCA has lost the trust of its own members.

The DAP strongman claimed MCA’s leadership failed to learn from the 2013 general election, which reduced it from being the second biggest BN party to a "puny 7/11" party.

In the last national polls, MCA won seven parliament seats and 11 state seats.

Lim also noted that MCA president Liow Tiong Lai recently revealed the party had over one million members.

"This means only some 30 percent of MCA members voted for MCA candidates in 2013

"The total number of votes polled by MCA parliamentary candidates in 2013 came to 867,851. Assuming that some two-thirds of these votes are Umno votes, this means MCA had only 280,000 to 300,000 MCA members voting for MCA candidates – which is 30 percent or even less of the total MCA membership.

"The reason for this shocking state of affairs is simple – MCA has not only lost the trust and confidence of Malaysians as a whole, including the Chinese community, but even the overwhelming majority of MCA card-carrying members," he said in a media statement.

According to Lim, MCA's predicament is due to the contradiction between its leaders' deeds and words as exemplified by the row over PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill.

"This is because of MCA ministers who say one thing outside but do the opposite in the cabinet – and the MCA ministers' stand on Hadi's hudud bill provides the latest example.

"MCA's three ministers, led by Liow, have maintained that Hadi's bill is unconstitutional but how can they be part of the cabinet whose minister expressed support for this bill, even to the extent of moving a ministerial motion to fast-track Hadi's bill on the last day of Parliament on May 26?" he asked in reference to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said.

Lim also mentioned his 48-hour ultimatum to Liow and Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong to requisition an emergency BN supreme council meeting to resolve the week-long spat caused by Azalina, failing which Malaysians would have to conclude the pair had knowledge about the plot between Hadi and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"I do not expect Liow or Mah to either have the courage of their conviction or the principled stand to requisition for an emergency meeting even when Azalina acted in violation of the consensus reached by all BN leaders on the same issue in March 2015 as well as the reaffirmation by cabinet at its meeting on May 20, 2015 of a fundamental BN stand.

"In fact, can the MCA and Gerakan ministers explain what they did at the cabinet meeting two days ago to repudiate Azalina's ministerial motion, especially in supporting Hadi's unconstitutional hudud bill.

"Didn't they just keep quiet to condone Azalina’s ministerial motion?" he added.
