Weighing in to deflect brickbats thrown at PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over the replica keris fracas, a party veep said that there is nothing wrong with his boss brandishing the oversized mock Malay dagger, as it makes for a more colourful political landscape.

“What is wrong for us to make things more colourful ?” asked party vice-president Idris Ahmad.

Using the analogy of fashion style where some choose to wear similar coloured clothes while others likes contrasting colours, he said the keris depicts PAS’ own brand of style.

“There is nothing wrong,” he stressed during a press conference at the PAS command centre, near the Kuala Kangsar Palace.

He slammed those who poked fun at Hadi as having ran out of legitimate issues for having resorted to such minor matters.

“They have ran out of ideas, thus comes the cake issue,” he said.

The recently concluded 62nd PAS muktamar in Kota Baru saw Hadi wielding a giant replica of a keris to cut a pulut (glutinous rice) cake made up to look like the party flag, as an opening gimmick.

Idris, who is also Bukit Gantang parliamentarian, sarcastically said if they had brandished a replica machine gun, others may think they are M16-carrying-Taliban militants.
