Five Immigration officers held over ‘sabotaging myIMMs’

Police detained five Immigration Department officers yesterday on suspicion they had sabotaged the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said they were detained at the KL International Airport to assist investigations.

He said the operation to trace others involved in sabotaging myIMMs was ongoing.

“Police also seized several case materials among them documents and further investigations will be made,” he said, declining to reveal more details.

He told this at a press conference after opening the annual general meeting of the Royal Malaysia Police Cooperative in Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to this, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, had revealed that some 100 people including Immigration Department officers were being probed by the authorities for involvement in sabotaging the myIMMs to allow entry of illegals.

The auditor-general in his 2015 Series 1 report had stated that the myIMMs developed to support the department’s core function was not satisfactory and its objectives not clear.
