EC still sees no evil despite outright bribery

YOURSAY | ‘If Umno stop announcing such 'grant' during elections, they can't win.’

Please fulfil my wish, says Najib after RM194m rubber aid

Kim Quek: Any person who gives material benefits “in order to induce” votes “shall be deemed guilty of the offence of bribery” at any election, so states section 10 of the Election Offences Act 1954.

In this case, PM Najib Razak handed out RM500 to each of the recipients (small rubber holders), and immediately asked the recipients to reciprocate the kindness by supporting the BN candidate.

So, there was the act of vote inducement and there was the handing-out of benefits, two vital ingredients that made up an election bribery.

It is clear that Najib is guilty of corrupt practice and should be reported immediately to the Election Commission, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police for investigation and punishment as prescribed in Section 11 of the Election Offences Act 1954.

Anonymous 109681439536914: Najib, if this aid has nothing to do with the elections, you could have waited until after the elections to make the donation.

And why did you ask for the voters to support Umno on making the announcement?

Anonymous 637541435986091: The only campaigning this PM knows is to give handouts and ask for favour in return. If it’s not a bribe, I don’t know a better word for it.

Freethinker: If Umno stop announcing such 'grant' during elections, they can't win.

I'm sure EC would concur this is not vote-buying even it was given during election time and asking for votes after the cash handouts.

RR: The Indians in India collect all the cash and gifts, but vote for the opposition to maintain check and balance of the government. Malaysians should follow that.

'What's Najib got to say about WSJ's correction on where US$3b went to?'

Inworldnotof: How do teachers hold their heads up in the classroom as government servants when their head of government continues the facade of leading and governing, while other nations probe and continue to unravel with details that tell every literate citizen, young and old, that their future and livelihood are being run to the ground as perpetrators of lies, deceit, embezzlement, deception continue in squander-plunder mode with impunity.

What kind of values do the young ones grow up with in their hearts and minds? That it is all right to take what is not theirs? That power and position give them the special privilege and authority to be non-accountable? Irresponsible? That might is right? That one can get away with murder as long as they have the right connections? Or that money can buy obeisance, NFAs (no further actions), and silence?

Malaysia, our beloved nation, is going through its darkest moments. As right-thinking rakyat we must hanker for the truth until justice and righteousness return to this blessed land.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Yes, how can the PM continue about his daily business when the evidence against him is so strong?

How can Umno members continue to ignore such clear evidence of wrongdoing? What kind of a system do we have where these people can simply shrug it off?

If this was any other country, Najib would be held accountable and forced to answer for this and accept the need to vacate his post as he works to clear his name if indeed he is innocent.

Amazed: Malaysia's very fine reputation has been seriously dented by just one man. Even at this stage, by normal international standard, there are enough evidence to put this man behind bars except in Malaysia.

The greatest shame is that the top echelon of his political party, many of whom are in the government, not only lie to save him but further empowers him with almost dictatorial power.

Is it right to sacrifice our country's integrity just for one man and his family to enjoy alleged ill-gotten wealth? I am fast losing hope.

Anonymous 2415891461978791: The Wall Street Journal, in dozens of detailed articles, has presented evidence that Najib is allegedly an embezzler on a grand scale, one of the biggest kleptocrats in the history of the world.

The WSJ has stated that Najib has wrongfully taken hundreds of millions from the Malaysian people.

If Najib allows these charges to stand without challenging them in court, the public can only believe that the WSJ is telling the truth and that Najib dare not sue them.

K Karim: DAP leader Lim Kit Siang feeds on controversies and lies.

His breakfast is made of 'cooked-up' stories to defame the PM and bring down the government. His afternoon tea is served with 'Umno is corrupt' cakes. His dinner is steamed up with issues to belittle the Malay leadership.

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: K Karim, time will tell who is telling lies. But, as it is, the obvious liar is the one who is running and avoiding the billion-ringgit questions.

Don’t simply condemn Lim. Due to mega corruption, the country might go bankrupt just like what happen to the Philippines under Marcos and Imelda.

We have lots of similarities now. What is the result? Millions of Filipinos went overseas as maids and cheap labourers. The same thing happened to Indonesia under Suharto.

The possibility of seeing your clansman going overseas as maids and labourers is real. Only then you would wake up to realise that Lim is fighting for the benefits of the people. By then, it will be late.
