So it's okay for opposition to hand out cash to voters?

YOURSAY | 'Let's see if EC makes any noise or whether there will be police reports lodged.'

EC has no problem with PM giving RM500 cash to rubber tappers

P Dev Anand Pillai: The best way to play this game is to do it their way. In Selangor, MB Azmin Ali can use state funds and help the fisherfolk and farmers in Sekinchan, as the Election Commission chairperson says it all depends on “interpretation”.

We will interpret it just as how BN interprets it, and give the people money in return for votes.

Democracy is all about money. Part of the money stolen or squeezed from the people is thrown back in the form of crumbs to the people in return for votes.

The people, being stupid as they are, will without doubt fall for the trick every time.

Gaji Buta: Opposition, as a test, should give RM600 each to some needy group and see if the EC makes any noise, or whether there will be police reports lodged.

Anonymous 2415891461978791: If actually giving voters cash before they vote isn't bribery, I'd like to know what this is.

Is there any other country on the planet where this sort of blatant payoff is not bribery? I'd like to hear the rationale in detail. To me, this is just completely crazy.

Quigonbond: Wow. So exactly what is considered as giving bribes to win votes?

Oscar Kilo: “This depends on the interpretation of every party...,” said EC member Abdul Aziz Khalidin.

Clearly, an unbelievably irresponsible statement from the EC. So now anyone can interpret the law any way they want.

Appum: How about renaming this by-election into buy-election - officially I mean.

Anonymous #19098644: Next, the BN parties will be milling outside the polling stations handing out cash and the EC will say that is also okay.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has to close shop because it is okay during election time to hand out money whether it is in front of the court, the police station, the rubber estate or the ceramah.

It is the same as giving out rice or receiving donations from Arabs. It is not corruption, it is aid. It is not corruption, it is donation. It is not corruption, it is allowed.

Nil: EC, there is a difference between "not seeing any problem" and "not wanting to see the problem".

Anonymous #69158: "The aid is to be given to 388,111 eligible small rubber farmers nationwide."

Read this sentence. This shows this aid is for all, and not only the residents of Kuala Kangsar.

N1: How can giving out monies in exchange for votes not be a problem?

Wg321: So in other words, the EC supports corruption in this country. It has come to the stage where nobody feels ashamed to be corrupt. This is called leadership by example.

The government servants may think "birds do it, bees do it, why can't I do it?" Over to you MACC. Does MACC support corruption just like the EC?

I make the above statement out of despair. Only the Malays can change the government since they formed the majority of the voters and because of the gerrymandering of our electoral boundaries.

If the Malays accept to be the beneficiaries of a corrupt system of government, there is nothing we can do about it.

Mosquitobrain: Folks, take all goodies but vote 'orange' for Amanah.

The Analyser: Stop griping. Everyone knows how BN electioneering operates. Learn to live with it.

In reality (and I know opposition supporters hate the word 'reality'), if the opposition had anything worth voting for, the rubber tappers would take the money and then vote Amanah.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Give a rubber tapper RM500 and you keep him dependent.

Determined Sarawakian: It's an act of charity. If the opposition doesn't like it, tough!

Gaji Buta: Just make buying votes legal. Issue resolved. No need for all this stress.

While you are at it, why not also make abuse of power and corruption legal as well. It saves a lot of play acting and wastage of resources.

Hardboiled: We, the rakyat, provide for the government's coffers. The rakyat must remember that goodies from the government are not goodies from BN.

The rakyat must also remember that only when BN needs your votes do they give goodies. So ask yourself this, do you want a government that gives money away for your votes, or a government that provides a foundation for future prosperity?

Only the rakyat has the power to stop the corruption, the extremism, and the fall of our nation. The rakyat must see the devil bearing gifts and realise this truth.

We must act, not for ourselves or our fellow men, but for our children and their children. Nothing else is as important as the future of the next generation.

Bornean: EC, because of your lack of action, now everyone is doing it. It's time to show who has the most resources.
