A woman died in a minor collision that had caused the airbag of her Honda City to rupture.

The Honda City sustained "minor damage" after it rear-ended a Mercedes Benz at Kota Damasara today, The Star reported.

First responders suspect she sustained injuries to her chest from material protruding from the centre of the steering wheel.

“There was blood in the car when we inspected it. Medical personnel from Hospital Sungai Buloh said she was barely alive when help arrived.

"She died at the scene. Her three passengers were not hurt,” Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Department Senior Officer II Rosdi Hainan was quoted by The Star as saying.

The cause of death is unknown pending a post-mortem, the daily reported.

Honda Motor last week recalled 147,894 vehicles in Malaysia to replace front-passenger air-bag inflators.

This was part of a global recall involving air bags from supplier Takata, which had caused deaths.

The recall applies to models built from 2003 to 2011, Honda Malaysia said.

Models include the City, Accord and Civic.
