MCA has slammed DAP for attacking it over Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman's controversial kafir harbi statements.
MCA’s publicity chief Chai Kim Sen said DAP should address the issue, instead of finding fault with MCA and its president, Liow Tiong Lai.
He said DAP was ignoring the fact that MCA leaders, including himself, had made statements condemning the mufti the very same day his remarks were made public.
“Our press statements were also published on online news portals on the same day, but DAP has closed an eye to this fact.
“However, MCA is not astonished that DAP, unlike MCA, is not behaving in a bipartisan manner on the issue of butchering people deemed infidels, but paradoxically, taking advantage of the Pahang mufti’s serious and divisive call for bloodshed, to condemn our president’s leadership.
“The public would have expected DAP to address the kafir harbi label in a mature manner, and not sabre-rattle MCA into an argument with DAP, and thus completely distracting attention from the issue,” Chai said in a press statement today.
Abdul Rahman had been quoted by Utusan Malaysia saying that those in DAP are kafir harbi for its opposition to the implementation of Islamic law, referring to PAS’ hudud law in Kelantan.
The label refers to non-Muslims who are at war against Islam, and persons so labelled are considered as permitted to be killed.
Abdul Rahman later clarified that he was not referring to DAP alone, but anyone who opposed Islam. His comments were condemned by DAP, PKR, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and PBB leaders, as well as Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali.
MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker had slammed Abdul Rahman’s remarks as irresponsible and unbecoming of a mufti, while Chai said the mufti appeared to be stoking civil war amongst fellow citizens.
However, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said he was reserving his comments regarding the matter, after being asked twice at a press conference yesterday.
