Pahang mufti: Muslims must defend Islam from interference

Muslims in this country must defend Islam wisely by avoiding bloodshed or war when their religion is not given due respect.

Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman said that Muslims should not remain silent when Islam is belittled and made fun of by others.

Abdul Rahman was quoted as saying the DAP was against the implementation of Islamic law and aims to establish a secular state and thus classified them as kafir harbi who must be challenged.

"Muslims should respond or defend Islam wisely, and not necessarily through bloodshed and plunder.

"They must challenge. Challenge in this context is to defend Islam verbally and not to remain silent," he told reporters after a meeting with 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to express solidarity with the Pahang mufti in Pekan yesterday.

Abdul Rahman reiterated that he will not retract his earlier statement because he did not do anything wrong and was only talking based on Islam.

"As the mufti, I speak on the basis of Islam, the religion of Allah which has to be spread worldwide. I hope that in this holy month of Ramadan, we can all live in harmony.

"Therefore, the non-Muslims in the country must not interfere in the affairs of Islam," he added.

Police had recorded Abdul Rahman's statement and conducted investigation under the Sedition Act.
