Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar, has denied that the police force issued a security alert message to members of the public today.

"This message is not from @PDRMsia," Khalid posted on his Twitter.

A message on the possibility of Islamic State (IS) attacks had gone viral. It had urged people to avoid some of the busy areas of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, such as Bukit Bintang, Midvalley Megamall, The Curve and LRT stations.

It also called on the people to stay away from entertainment areas.

This comes days after police confirmed that Islamic State elements were involved in the grenade blast at the Movida nightclub in Puchong on June 28.
