'Selangor won't fall' remark reflects arrogance, says Umno rep

An Umno state assemblyperson believes the federal opposition is blinded by arrogance as reflected in the claim that Selangor will not fall to BN in the next general election.

Citing the recent Sungai Besar by-election, Mat Nadzari Ahmad Dahlan claimed the outcome reflected the waning confidence in the current state administration.

Speaking to Umno Online, he said BN is certain that the people are fed-up with the opposition's politics, where battles are waged against each other for power and positions.

"Because of their arrogance, they have forgotten and do not realise the internal conflict in their party. Everyone knows about the existence of camps in PKR.

"This is not taking into account the PKR camp which is pro-PAS and the group which is aligned to Parti Amanah Negara.

"What about the war between menteri besar Azmin Ali and (PKR vice-president) Rafizi Ramli?" he asked in a report published by Umno Online this afternoon.

The Batang Kali assemblyperson was responding to certain opposition leaders who belittled the appointment of Selangor Umno liaison chief Noh Omar as a full cabinet minister.

According to him, their attitude revealed their unwillingness to face reality.

Mat Nadzari said Noh’s appointment as local government, urban well-being and housing minister would bring much benefit to the people of Selangor.

"I believe this is a new wave for the people who before this were left aside by the state government which was only interested in politicking all the time," he added.

Selangor fell to the opposition coalition in the 2008 general election, and and it managed to retain its power in the state in the last general election.

However, the June 18 Sungai Besar by-election saw BN securing a thumping victory, which some analysts claimed signalled a shift in support.
