Temperatures rose despite the rain when what was supposed to be a simple submission of a memorandum turned into a fracas when some 200 protesters were prevented by the police from approaching the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Frustrated, the protesters started shoving and pushing members of the police light strike force, which cordoned off the area.

Mostly clad in red T-shirts, the protesters, led by Umno Youth exco Ibdillah Ishak and Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohd Razlan Muhammad Rafie, had earlier marched for one kilometre from the Cheras Umno headquarters to the DAP headquarters singing 'Inilah Barisan Kita'.

Apart from banners and placards denouncing DAP, racist remarks were also hurled.

The protest was over DAP lawmaker Nga Kor Ming, who has been accused of insulting Islam with a Facebook posting. Nga has denied this.

Meanwhile, amidst the pushing and shoving which also saw red-shirt leader Persatuan Veteran Tentera Melayu president Mohd Ali Baharom (Ali Tinju) joining in the midst, an explosion was suddenly heard.

Eye witnesses said a ball-shaped firecracker was thrown towards the direction of the basement parking.

However, no one was injured. Soon after, some of the protesters managed to slip through the police barricade to join Razlan in meeting DAP’s representative Chu Yoon Ming who came down to receive the memorandum.

Reading the memorandum to Chu as well as to the members of the press, Razlan said the Federal Territories Umno denounced and viewed the purported remarks made by Nga "seriously".

Branding the remarks “irresponsible”, Razlan urged Nga to apologise publicly to all Muslims in the country.

“It’s because he doesn't have integrity and has low morals, as well as anti-Islam.

“We give him time to apologise before Raya ends,” he added.

Apart from demanding Nga to apologise, Razlan said the Taiping MP must also be subjected to the Sedition Act.

“Arrest him, let him be an example to non-Muslims out there not to ridicule the religion," he said.

Throughout the protest, hell notes were thrown several times towards the direction of the building.

After Razlan read out the memorandum, the Umno Youth leader addressed the press before the protest was dispersed by police at 3.30pm.

No other untoward incident occurred except for a second firecracker which was thrown at the end of the event.
