PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man's call for a ceasefire among opposition parties, although late, should be lauded but the party needs to identify its real political foe, says its fiercest rival Parti Amanah Negara.

Amanah vice-president Mujahid Yusof Rawa said PAS had clearly attacked Pakatan Harapan in the recent twin by-elections in Sungai Besar, Selangor and Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

Despite negotiations, PAS decided to contest, paving the way for three-cornered fights in the polls, said the Parit Buntar MP.

"It was PAS that became the spoilsport in the opposition camp," Mujahid told Malaysiakini.

He said PAS had attacked DAP and ignored Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali's "warning" not to contest.

On Tuan Ibrahim's latest remark about a ceasefire, Mujahid said:

"I'm not sure whether it was Tuan Ibrahim's idea or the party's stand because there have been incidents where his statements were quickly brushed aside by his boss (PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang)."

In calling for a truce yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim had urged the opposition to train its guns on Umno-BN instead.

He said opposition parties often wanted to be heroes to show they were capable of defeating the ruling coalition, resulting in them being eliminated first.

“After the (opposition) competitor is defeated, then only is the weapon targeted at the real enemy. This is the actual political situation in the country,” Tuan Ibrahim had said in a media statement.

Mujahid said the PAS number two must recognise that Pakatan Harapan was clear from the beginning as to who were its real rivals.

"We never considered PAS as our rival, we even invited PAS for the formation of Pakatan Harapan," Mujahid said.

"We as Harapan are solid and he has to recognise the pact first before holding any talks with us.

"He must respect Amanah as a component party to show his sincerity," he added.

But if Tuan Ibrahim's remark about a ceasefire is true, it is a good thing, he said.

"PAS must realise the need for a grand coalition within the opposition which (must) also include other fractions from Umno splinter group," he added.
