Terengganu appeals for toll reduction on LPT2

The Terengganu government is to appeal to Projek Lebuhraya Utara Selatan (Plus) to reduce the toll charges on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) until all necessary facilities have been provided along the 184km-long highway.

Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said today fuel stations had yet to be set up along the expressway where toll collection at 10 points began on July 15.

“I am confident that the facilities can be provided in the coming two or three months,” he told reporters at the Aidilfitri open house at Wisma Persekutuan in Kuala Terengganu.

The state government had appealed to Plus previously to postpone toll collection until July 15 this year. The highway was opened to traffic on Jan 31 last year and it is operated by Lebuhraya Pantai Timur 2, a fully-owned subsidiary of Plus.

Ahmad Razif said the rate of the toll charges imposed on the highway was similar to that on other Plus expressways.

LPT2 has 10 toll plazas, at Cheneh, Chukai, Kijal, Kerteh, Paka, Kuala Dungun, Bukit Besi, Ajil, Telemong and Kuala Terengganu.

For Class 1 (motorcar) users, the toll rate is 12 sen per kilometre. It will cost a motorist RM19.70 in toll for a journey from the Kuala Terengganu toll plaza to the Cheneh toll plaza.
