Intruders allegedly desecrated a temple in Petaling Jaya today, amid reports of recent vandalism in Hindu temples in several states.

A police report was lodged on the incident this morning, said Bukit Gasing assemblyperson Rajiv Risyakaran.

“This morning vandals broke a statue at the Sri Muniswar Temple in PJ Old Town. I condemn this utterly disgusting act.

“A police report has been made (and) I call upon the police to give their best efforts to apprehend these culprits,” he said in a statement.

According to the police report, Sri Veera Muniswar Alayam temple owner Ganesan Doraisamy said he received a call from his older sister at about 10.40am, informing that the head of the snake statue (Nagama) was broken.

“There is no CCTV inside the temple. I went to the temple at about 11am and found that the snake statue’s head was ‘cut’ (and broken).

“There were no other items missing from the temple and I came to the police station for further actions,” said Ganesan.

Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had on July 11 announced that a special team had been formed to investigate the spate of vandalism cases involving Hindu temples in Penang.

This was after four of such cases were recorded in Penang over the last two months.

On July 14, The Star reported that two more temples ̶  one in Mahang, Kedah and the other in Selama, Perak  ̶  were similarly desecrated.
