Ambrin keeps mum on US move to seize 1MDB-linked assets

Auditor-general Ambrin Buang has refused to comment when asked about the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) lawsuits to forfeit assets which it claims originated from funds diverted from 1MDB.

When met by Malaysiakini outside the Sessions Court after proceedings today against Rafizi Ramli, Ambrin curtly replied "No comment", on the action taken in the US.

On July 20, the DOJ said it had filed civil lawsuits seeking to seize assets valued at more than US$1 billion, allegedly stolen from 1MDB, which was overseen by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak

Federal Bureau of Investigation deputy director Andrew McCabe said the Malaysian people were defrauded on an enormous scale in a scheme whose tentacles reached around the world.

The court papers named the CEO of Red Granite Pictures, Riza Aziz, who is Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's stepson and also businessman Jho Low, in the lawsuit.

Another person named in the court documents is identified as Malaysian Official 1.

The DOJ sought to seize 17 assets including properties, a jet and artworks as part of the legal action.
