DRB-Hicom Bhd and Proton Holdings Bhd will award Malaysia’s Rio Olympic medallists with Proton cars in appreciation of their effort, dedication and commitment.

Congratulating the winners, the companies said the gold medal winner would receive a Perdana 2.0L, the silver winner would get a Suprima S 1.6L Turbo Premium, and the bronze winner, an Iriz 1.6L Premium.

“As DRB-Hicom and Proton had always carried the Malaysian flag in all that we do, this gesture is in line with our pride towards Jalur Gemilang.

“We hope this will provide further encouragement to our athletes to strive harder in making our beloved Malaysians proud, especially at the highest level such as the Olympics,” said DRB-Hicom managing director and Proton chairperson Syed Faisal Albar in a statement today.

To date, Malaysia has won two silver and a bronze.

Divers Pandelela Rinong and Chiong Jun Hoong won silver in the 10m platform synchro, cyclist Azizulhasni Awang took bronze in the keirin event, while badminton mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying won silver.

Malaysia is represented by 32 athletes competing in 10 events at the world’s foremost sports meet with more than 200 nations participating.
