Rio Olympics bronze medallist Azizulhasni received a hero’s welcome at KL International Airport today after he delivered Malaysia's first medal in the men's keirin.

Speaking to the press, Azizulhasni said he hoped his feat can inspire others.

“I hope this will inspire Malaysians - that even though we are from a small country, even though our bodies are small, we are not only able to compete with other athletes but to also stand as equal and even be better than them.

“We Malaysians can achieve anything,” he said as he was welcomed by some 100 family, friends and fans.

Azizulhasni, also known as the ‘rocket pocket man’, said he hoped the success can also encourage the development of cycling as well as other sports in the country.

“I hope, going forward, there will be big changes in the national sports arena. I hope our velodrome (track cycling arena) can be quickly completed and I also hope that there can be one in every state,” he said.

On a separate matter, Azizulhasni said he will be meeting with Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

This was after he criticised Ahmad Razif for refusing to provide aid during his training for the Olympics.

Ahmad Razif had said any requests for help never reached him and was investigating the matter.

Azizulhasni said it may be an understanding.

He added, for now, he wanted to see his family and children.
