A leading Malaysian human capital development solutions provider applauded Campuskini’s writing workshop as practical, engaging and enlightening.

K-Pintar Sdn Bhd founder and CEO RA Thiagaraja said the workshop was “a step-by-step approach on how to plan, write and how to distribute the media release,” after participating in the one-day workshop.

“I have acquired the practical experience and knowledge on how to prepare a press release.

“At the same time I have also learned how to develop good public relations and ensure how our press releases can be published,” he said in his evaluation and feedback of the workshop.

The workshop was conducted by veteran journalist and media coach M Krishnamoorthy.

Organised by Campuskini, Malaysiakini’s editor-in-chief Steven Gan and Hazlan Zakaria gave tips on building better relationship with editors and how to pitch their stories to the print, electronic and social media.

K-Pintar’s operation director RS Balan said that he had learnt on how to build relationship with the media and get his press statements published in the newspapers.

“It’s amazing, now I have learned the art of writing, rewriting and editing articles. I am looking forward to another follow-up session on other aspects of media relations.”

Working closely with HRDF, K-Pintar strives to provide the platform for catalysing human capital growth through several international collaborations.

The media writing workshop’s goals were for participants to get a hands-on experience in writing newsworthy press releases; understand how to write for target audience; and deliver a sharp story angle that will interest the public.

Another participant, CIMB Investment executive Tina Chan, said she gained an in-depth perspective of the media and how it operates when it comes to publishing press releases.

“I now know how to connect the dots in the whole chain of writing a story and getting it published,” she added.

SpaCeylon’s CEO Jeevah Nadaraju thanked Campuskini for introducing such a course which was helpful to her business of marketing Ayurvedic health products.

“I got to polish my writing, rewriting and editing skills. I also got a better insight into writing headlines and the ideas of the 5Ws (Who, What, When, Where and Why of a story).”

‘The medium to convey the positive image of a company’

Sports event company SixOThree’s executive director Kenny Loh said the media is critical to the sports industry as it is the medium to convey the positive image of a company.

“Without it, we will only be spreading the word of mouth. Publicity managed well will realise its goals. Hence, this workshop is important as it prepares us to have good working relationship with the media.

“The tips provided will help me in my media relations skills and how to deal with reporters and editors.”

Dreamland Corporation’s marketing manager Beh Hui Choo said the workshop was “insightful, eye-opening and engaging, educational and relevant to her industry.”

The Merdeka offer fee was only RM300 (HRDF claimable) as it was Malaysiakini’s corporate social responsibility and commitment to educate professionals in sharpening their writing skills.

Krishnamoorthy also coached the participants’ best practices for facing the media under any circumstance; navigating hostile press conferences, answering tricky questions, and handling ambush interviews.

Attendees were also given a complimentary copy of Krishnamoorthy’s book ‘Flying Through Crisis, MH370: Lessons in Crisis Communications’ (Regular retail price RM45.00).
