Parti Amanah Negara Youth vice-chief Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar has been found guilty of sedition by the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur and sentenced to an eight-month jail term.

Sessions judge Shamsudin Abdullah said the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Fakhrulrazi was charged with sedition in calling for former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's release, for suggesting the judiciary was controlled by politicians and that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor were involved in the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaaribu.

He was alleged to have uttered the seditious words in front of the Sogo complex in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman about 4.30pm on Feb 21 last year.

In sentencing, the judge said the court took into consideration the severity of the words uttered, which involved seditious tendency against the government of the day, and that it may cause civil unrest.

"The sentence must take into account the issue of public interest."

However, Shamsudin allowed an application for a stay of the sentence but increased the bail for Fakhrulrazi from RM1,000 to RM5,000.

DPP Julia Ibrahim prosecuted while lawyer Ariff Hazami Hussin represented Fakhrulrazi.
