The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today arrested the chairperson of a local bank with the title of 'Tan Sri' to facilitate investigation in an abuse of power and corruption case.

This was confirmed by MACC director of investigations Azam Baki, according to Bernama.

He said the man in his 60s was arrested at the MACC headquarters at 1.15pm.

His bank account, containing almost RM1 million, was also frozen.

According to Bernama, the Tan Sri's arrest was related to the MACC's investigation of tenders by the local bank.

One was for a tender to revamp the local bank's system and another RM15 million tender to publish a book about a national leader which never materialised.

The arrest today is the third from the bank.

On Aug 25, a managing director at the bank with the title 'Datuk' was arrested, followed by another officer a day later.

The Datuk had allegedly granted the RM15 million tender to a publishing firm whose owner was linked to him.

The MACC had frozen RM8.1 million in several accounts, including those belonging to the Datuk when it first moved in on the case.
