Penang Gerakan has called on the state government to form a commission of inquiry on the issue of alleged corruption in obtaining low-cost housing units.

State Gerakan acting vice-president Oh Tong Keong said the party would like to send its members to be a part of the commission.

Failing which, Gerakan will request the Penang governor to look into forming the commission.

“We will put all the evidence in a CD (compact disc) and submit it to Penang Governor Abdul Rahman Abbas,” Oh told a press conference in Penang today.

Oh was referring to a five-minute video clip that surfaced on a pro-BN Facebook page, featuring the father of DAP Sungai Pinang assemblyperson Lim Siew Khim.

In the video, Lim Keat Seong, 68, was seen sitting with several unknown individuals who tried to claim money after paying bribes between RM1,000 to RM2,5000 to obtain low-cost homes.

Siew Khim immediately distanced herself from the incident, saying she had no idea about her father’s movements or dealings.

She urged victims of the alleged housing scam to lodge police reports about their plight.

Siew Khim also slammed Gerakan for trying to implicate her in the matter, saying that the party was trying to divert attention from the internal squabble over the Sungai Pinang seat.

DAP Seri Delima assemblyperson RSN Rayer, who was present at Siew Khim’s press conference yesterday as her lawyer, threatened to sue those who tried to link her to the bribery case.

Oh today expressed regret that Rayer had warned Gerakan that the state government and DAP would take action against them if they continue to raise the issue.

“As an opposition party, we are merely doing our job. We monitor and raise issues that are unjust to the people,” Oh said.

“We merely asked several questions pertaining to the video clip; if only with this, we can be brought to court, it clearly shows that CAT (competency, transparency and accountability) has died,” he added.

Oh also expressed disappointment that Siew Khim had tried to link the alleged housing bribery case to the party’s internal squabble.

He condemned such remarks as “irresponsible”, coming from a state assemblyperson.

“Is there a link between Uncle Lim (Siew Khim’s father) with the internal problems in Gerakan?

“Her remarks clearly shows she tried to divert attention of the public from the issue involving her father,” he said.

Oh asked if Siew Khim’s father had indeed taken “coffee money” as the video suggested, and to whom he had allegedly given it to.

“Will the Penang government take action against Uncle Lim?” Oh asked.
