Rain, power trip, accidents cause delays for morning commuters

This morning's rain, coupled with a power trip, caused delays for hundreds of people on their morning commute today.

The rain caused massive traffic jams, delaying motorists up to 30 minutes in the Klang Valley.

At the same time, a power trip at the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelana Jaya line from Masjid Jamek to Ampang Park was also causing delays as the service experienced technical difficulties.

"KJ Line: Train is experiencing delay due to power trip from Masjid Jamek to Ampang Park. Updates to follow," MyRapid KL said in a Twitter post this morning.

It later said that shuttle buses from Sri Rampai to Masjid Jamek are being provided, along with alternate train services from Putra Heights to turn back at Masjid Jamek.

At 8.50am, power had been restored between Setiawangsa and Damai, RapidKL also said.

Those who were stuck at the station and wish to seek alternative transport may obtain a refund coupon on their paid fare, they added.

Besides the rain and the power trip, accidents this morning only added to the congestion, as a one-hour delay is expected from Citta Mall to the Federal Highway along the Subang Airport road due to an accident.

There was also a report of an accident near Bukit Raja, causing a traffic jam from the toll plaza.

Meanwhile, an accident involving three vehicles at Km7 on the ELITE highway from USJ to Seafield on the right lane is causing delays from the Dengkil rest area.

Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd (Rapid Rail), the operator of the Rapid KL LRT and monorail services, also apologised to its customers for the delays on the Kelana Jaya LRT Line this morning.

"We had glitches in the signalling and communication system between the Ampang Park and Dang Wangi stations and had to power down the line at several stations in the city centre for us to attend to the situation.

"Trains on the Kelana Jaya Line were shuttling between Putra Heights and Dang Wangi and between Gombak and Ampang Park.

"Buses were also deployed to ferry customers in need of alternate travel services from the Sri Rampai LRT station to the city centre and between KLCC and the city centre," said Kelana Jaya LRT Line Chief Operating Officer, Ismail Abdullah in a statement.

Repair work is underway to resume the service between Ampang Park and Dang Wangi safely, he added.

"We wish to extend our sincere apologies to our customers whose travels were interrupted by the glitches. Commuters who have entered the paid area of the stations may seek refund from our Customer Service Offices.”
