The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) has denied giving the thumbs up to the government’s draft amendments to the Law Reform (Marriage and Divorce) Act 1976 (LRA).
The interfaith group’s deputy president RS Mohan Shan told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today that the draft amendments are rumoured to be tabled in cabinet tomorrow, and the draft had supposedly been agreed upon by the MCCBCHST.
The amendments are meant to resolve child custody disputes arising from unilateral conversions, but Mohan said the MCCBCHST has yet to see the proposed amendments.
