YOURSAY | 'We should support what he is fighting for - to save Malaysia - even if we dislike him.'

The mysterious Dr Mahathir

The Analyser: What is there to understand about former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad? He is an insecure person whose greed and selfishness dominate all that he does.

The only difference is that he has been more cunning and more devious about the way he has portrayed his selfishness, his greed and his repression. Now he is jealous because someone else has out-greeded him and has out-selfished his plans for his family.

He just happened to be in power at a time when the world's economy was booming and he had access to an unlimited supply of money. The reality is that his 'achievements' are only a fraction of what they might have been.

Alfanso: There is nothing to ask Mahathir. The country embraced him then and now despise him - what values do they seek, I wonder. What is there to learn from him? He has wasted time and life.

And PM Najib Razak is only one of the manifestations of the consequences of the Mahathir era - and they are seeking more non-values to carry on. So the measure of reality is clear yet cloudy for many.

Anticonmen: The only one with the correct answer, I would say, is commenter 'The Analyser'.

Maha-fox is a shrewd con who dismantled the constitution and beat the controls and the system, but he never expected someone to outcon, outfox, outsteal, outgreed, outselfish and outbeat the system like his groomed man has.

Vision2020: By virtue of Mahathir's current political actions like the historic handshake with is former deputy, forming Bersatu and spearheading the Citizens' Declaration and taking it to the Agong, and his apology for curtailing the Agong's powers in 1988, Mahathir has inadvertently repented for his past actions and is zealously endeavouring to amend his past mistakes before Malaysia become a failed state in the nearest future.

There is no point dwelling on the past; it is best to learn from past mistakes and move on to fight for a better and greater Malaysia, which Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan all rakyat regardless of colour, creed, race and religion are striving for right now.

AngryBird: Conscientiously speaking, Mahathir is a man full of the devil's thought and never a time for him to do a thing for the benefit of other people or for other races except when it fits his own satisfaction.

To say Mahathir is the only prime minister that started the racial polarisation and social unrest is a truth, nothing but the truth. Today's Umno is the forever the shadow of Mahathir. Even though the current conflict between him and Umno looks bad, but deep inside Mahathir he knows better than anybody else that, to be cruel and racist and continue to hold power, Umno is the only machinery he can rely on to achieve his evil goals.

Mahathir will definitely go back to Umno again after Najib steps down as prime minister after the 14th GE.

JD Lovrenciear: In my humble opinion, the weather right now does not suit our line of thought that says, since Dr M did this and that, why should we now support his call for change.

If you sideline him now, then the next logical argument is: who then can be the most decisive factor to oust the failing powers? Time and tide demands that we must put the cart behind the horse and race to the finish.

Having said that, Dr M has a moral, spiritual and leadership obligation to address all fears and reservations solely for the liberation of and progressive future of all Malaysians.

Time and speed are the very limited resources that cannot be wasted again.

Anonymous_1390303981: If only our economy were not this bad and even going further downhill with the loss of jobs, very few scholarships, high cost of living, with the majority of Malaysians are suffering.

Please go and visit the countryside where our poor Malaysians are buying just enough groceries such as rice, sugar and so on for each day a time.

This isn't the time to talk about the past, it's simply, lessons learnt and time to move forward and strive to make it better for all.

Retired Citizen: Yes, we should be looking forward and using the past as a lesson. We will achieve nothing by continuing to blame Dr M.

We should be supporting what he is fighting for - to save Malaysia - even if we dislike him.

Has Anwar forgiven Dr M?

Kim Quek: I recall one of the first words that Anwar uttered – upon leaving the court room after he was acquitted of the first sodomy charge on that unforgettable day of Sept 2, 2004 – were “forgive but not forget”, when asked whether he had forgiven Mahathir.

I believe the priority to Anwar now is not whether Mahathir has apologised but whether Mahathir would agree to the fundamental reforms that would truly redeem this much misruled country.

To Anwar, the nation always comes first. As a leader, his charisma is unparalleled, and his patriotism absolute. I am glad that Malaysians in general appreciate this great leader and the tremendous contributions he has made, not to mention the incomparable suffering that he and his family have gone through.

At this critical hour when the nation needs our patriotism most, let us all follow the good example of Anwar and work single-mindedly to save the country before it falls too deeply into the abyss.

KCW: The most important thing now is to form a united opposition and strengthen it through collaborative effort of all the elements within the anti-Najib/Umno forces.

Those who acted as wet blankets to this collaborative initiative like PSM, former MP Kua Kia Soong and their ilk should be ignored. Without a wide-based united opposition, Umno and Najib can never be defeated.

Raja Chulan: Humans (including Dr M and Anwar) make mistakes. This is normal.

They have come forward to admit their mistakes and to correct present mistakes of the current PM. This we must appreciate and support.

I support the Dr M-Anwar combo in their fight against the Najib-BN government.
