Annuar Musa denies redelineation favours BN, will lose own branches
Umno information chief Annuar Musa today revealed that he would personally lose over 20 branches under his Ketereh parliamentary constituency under the Election Commission's proposed redelineation exercise.
Annuar said that just like the opposition party leaders, he was similarly never consulted by the EC on the ongoing nationwide redelineation proposal.
"There were Umno supreme council members who said they were unhappy that they were not approached by the EC.
"I myself was never met by the EC and suddenly I found out that I have lost more than 20 branches...," said Annuar in denying claims by the opposition that the ongoing redelineation would be conducted in favour of BN.
Among others, Annuar told a press conference at Umno headquarters in Kuala Lumpur that he even stood to lose the Umno branch from his own village, Bukit Marak in Ketereh.
Commenting further, Annuar said claims that the EC was acting in favour of Umno and BN, did not reflect the reality on the ground.
"What is most important is that the EC must carry out the exercise according to existing laws," said Annuar who insisted that Umno-BN would follow due process to file individual and collective objections against the proposals.
On concerns of increased racial polarisation as a result of the redelineation exercise, Annuar said the polarisation, particularly among Chinese voters, could already be seen today for example in Seputih held by DAP's Teresa Kok.
"I would not be proud if Teresa Kok won with a majority of 50,000. That is a reflection of polarisation of votes based on race," said Annuar.
Annuar, as such, said that Umno had reaffirmed its commitment to assist component members MCA and Gerakan to address the issue.
