The Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) has launched a mobile application that will enable users to report suspected syariah crimes.

The application Hotline Jais is available for download for Android users from the Google Play Store.

Users can lodge complaints over suspected syariah crimes via a form or by calling a 1-800 hotline connected through the application.

"Jais has the right not to take action if the information is fake, doubtful or outside of Jais' jurisdiction," the disclaimer on the form reads.

Users need to provide their full names, identity card numbers and contact details but Jais promises that the information will be kept confidential.

There is also an option to upload a picture of the alleged syariah crime.

Users can also download Selangor syariah enactments, find the nearest Jais office and the nearest mosque and keep up with activities held by Jais.

For example, users are informed of the annual Selangor Syariah Law convention on Oct 12, 2016, and add the event in their personal electronic calendars.

It also provides directions of how to get to the event, and allows users to share the event to their social circle.

The application was first highlighted by technology blog Amanz.my.

In August, the portal reported police will revamp the Rakan Cop application so the public can report crime and upload pictures and videos of the incident.

"Through this application, the public can be the eyes and ears of police in swiftly combating crime," it reported.
