A MCA leader wants the police to investigate Jamal Mohd Yunos's claim that some of the information he had obtained about the alleged link between Bersih and Islamic State came from PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

Though conceding that the red shirts leader can be "emotional and wild" at times, Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kie said he is also simple minded and straight forward.

"On the other hand, Rafizi is proud to be well connected with all forms of networking which are his sources of information, be they locally or globally obtained.

"Rafizi has successfully manipulated and fully utilised such information sources for his own political agenda," she added in a media statement.

Wondering about Rafizi’s quick dismissal of Jamal’s allegation, Heng asked if the PKR leader had something to hide.

"On the contrary, Rafizi should welcome the police to probe him for IS links or any issue since he is so confident that he is clean.

"If there is truth in Jamal’s accusation against Rafizi, this translates to the PKR MP as a mean and beguiling person. On one hand, opposition elected representatives are known to join Bersih in all their street demonstrations.

"On the other hand, the regular participation of Bersih and Pakatan Harapan leaders like Rafizi in street rallies in criticising the federal government has inadvertently instigated the red shirts to call and stage counter street demonstrations," she added.

According to Heng, Wanita MCA is extremely disappointed with Rafizi for betraying Bersih and the public who support the election watchdog.

Apart from this, she also accused him of scheming to create chaos and place innocent people who join the rally at risk.

"Particularly, the personal security of women, children and the elderly is at stake.

"Therefore, Rafizi must be probed and if necessary apprehended for not only alleged IS links but also his bad intention to create a ‘riot’ by instigating others, which only serves to jeopardise Malaysia’s national unity and harmony," she added.

However, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the police should ignore claims that Bersih is infiltrated by the IS.

"There is no need to respond to Jamal. Police need not investigate the claims which are politically motivated," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, lodged a police report claiming he has credible information linking Bersih to the IS.

Speaking to reporters later, he dragged Rafizi into the issue, prompting the latter to issue a denial and describe Jamal as the "biggest clown in Umno".

Bersih has denied the terror-link allegation and slapped Jamal with a 48-hour deadline to apologise, or face legal action.

Jamal, however, tore the letter of demand and flushed it down the toilet.
